Copa del Rey matches suspended after train accident
The RFEF has suspended the 24 matches scheduled for Wednesday 28 October in the first round of the Copa del Rey, following the train accident in Urda, according to Europa Press.
The Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) has suspended the 24 Copa del Rey matches scheduled for Wednesday 28 October, according to Europa Press. The Spanish federation has decreed the postponement of these matches "como muestra de respeto y solidaridad" towards the victims of the train accident that occurred in the town of Urda.
A decision linked to an accident
The accident, which occurred between Los Yébenes and Urda, has led to the suspension of the entire first qualifying round of the competition. Several Spanish media outlets, including El País, ABC, El Mundo, AS and ElDesmarque, report the same information: the 24 scheduled matches will not be played. The daily El Español refers to "la tragedia ocurrida entre Los Yébenes y Urda".
ElDesmarque also reports the testimony of a person who was on the train travelling behind the one involved in the accident, on the way to the Xerez-Cádiz match. This testimony has not been confirmed by other sources.
No rescheduled date announced
For now, no information has been given on a possible rescheduled date for the matches concerned. The RFEF has not specified whether the competition will resume according to the initial calendar.
