Varandas prefers Champions League quarter-finals to the Cup
Frederico Varandas, president of Sporting CP, defended the Champions League as essential for the club, according to zerozero and RTP Desporto.
At the Portugal Football Summit in Oeiras, Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas said he would not trade a place in the Champions League quarter-finals for a Portuguese Cup campaign, zerozero reports.
According to RTP Desporto, Varandas defended coach Rui Borges' continued position, praising his work and recalling that the club had only reached the quarter-finals of the competition in 1982/83. He described the Champions League as the number one objective.
The headlines in Record and A Bola echo this preference, with the president saying he prefers the quarter-finals of the European competition to any Portuguese Cup.
