Roma goalkeeper Gollini in doubt for Manchester United clash
AS Roma goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini is doubtful for Tuesday's Champions League match against Manchester United at Old Trafford due to a back problem, according to Italian media.
AS Roma's backup goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini is a doubt for the team's Champions League group-stage match against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening, according to multiple Italian sources.
Gollini, who has been standing in for the injured Svilar, picked up a back problem during the final training session before the game, reports Corriere dello Sport. Tuttosport and TuttoMercatoWeb also say the goalkeeper is struggling with a back issue and that his participation is at risk.
Possible replacements
If Gollini is unable to play, coach Gasperini would have to turn to one of the other goalkeepers in the squad. According to Corriere dello Sport, both Vasquez and De Marzi have been put on alert.
TuttoMercatoWeb notes that for either of the two possible replacements, it would be their absolute debut for the club. Calciomercato.com also mentions a ballot between Vasquez and De Marzi.
Late decision expected
Gollini will try to recover until the last moment, but Gasperini has already prepared alternatives, according to TuttoMercatoWeb. The match is part of the fourth round of the Champions League group phase.
The final decision on Gollini's availability is expected to be made shortly before kickoff.
