Paul Scholes has said he was partly responsible for a Manchester United player leaving the club in 2012. In comments reported by Football365, the former midfielder explained that his return from retirement may have affected the player's expectations.

Scholes said: "So I think he expected to play because I came back and in January we had no midfielders left." The remarks, also covered by Metro, suggest that Scholes believes his comeback contributed to the player's departure.

Neither Scholes nor the reports name the player in question.
