Nigel de Jong has extended his contract as director of top-level football at the KNVB for four years, several Dutch media report. The former international, aged 41, who has held the post since January 2023, thus retains responsibility for the technical and football policy of the national teams.

A four-year extension

According to Voetbal International, Nigel de Jong will remain at the head of this directorate for four more years. The site FCUpdate specifies that his new contract, which will begin on 1 January 2027, runs until the start of 2031. NOS and De Telegraaf also confirm this extension.

A central role since 2023

Nigel de Jong has been director of top-level football at the KNVB since January 2023. In this capacity, he is in charge of the technical and sporting side of the Dutch national selections. This extension ensures continuity in this key position for the coming years.

The Dutch federation is therefore relying on his experience to steer top-level football. The Dutch media agree on the length of this new mandate, which will extend until the start of 2031. This decision confirms the KNVB's confidence in its director, whose work covers all the national teams.
