Mourinho calls Mbappé controversy 'ridículo'
Ahead of the match against Villarreal, José Mourinho described the controversy sparked by Kylian Mbappé's recent outings as 'ridículo', according to several Spanish media outlets.
José Mourinho took advantage of his pre-match press conference to put an end to the controversy surrounding Kylian Mbappé. The Real Madrid coach described all this fuss as "ridículo," as reported by Mundo Deportivo. He also blamed journalists for trying to get the French player whistled, adding: "Your goal is for him to be whistled at," according to Libertad Digital.
A notable intervention
Asked about Mbappé's recent outings, José Mourinho was ironic about the facts attributed to the striker, mentioning "a nightclub that wasn't a nightclub, then the bike ride in Switzerland that was a hotel." These comments were reported by El Español, which notes that the Portuguese coach appeared before the media on the eve of the match against Villarreal on Saturday.
According to Estadio Deportivo, Mourinho denied that Mbappé had failed in his duties and warned that he expected the Bernabéu crowd to "read between the lines" in the face of what he considers an "interested dynamic." The sports daily mentions a "first big show" by the Portuguese in the press room on this subject.
A clarification before the resumption
ElDesmarque confirms that Mourinho assured that Mbappé would start against Villarreal, as Real Madrid return to domestic competition amid noise surrounding the Frenchman's behaviour in recent days. The Madrid club face Villarreal this weekend, as the league resumes.
