Chivu before Club Brugge: “We must have the courage to dream” in the Champions League
On the eve of hosting Club Brugge in the Champions League, the Inter coach called on his team to “have the courage to dream”, reports Tuttosport.
Inter Milan host Club Brugge on matchday two of the Champions League league phase. On the eve of the clash, the Nerazzurri coach issued a rallying cry to his players: "We must have the courage to dream," reports Tuttosport. His comments were echoed by Corriere dello Sport, which headlines: "Champions? We must have the courage to dream!"
An objective or a dream?
That phrase was picked up by several Italian media outlets. TuttoMercatoWeb highlights a "big difference" between the coach's vision and the club's: "For Inter, the Champions League is an objective; for Chivu, it's a dream." The coach has indeed repeated: "I believe we must have the courage to dream," according to the same outlet.
Journalist Daniele Garbo, a guest on TuttoMercatoWeb's radio show, set a more specific target: "In the Champions League, the Nerazzurri must reach at least the quarter-finals," he said.
Bastoni and Calhanoglu defended
Asked about defender Bastoni, Chivu was keen to support him. According to Tuttosport, he felt that Bastoni "has endured injustices" and that "sometimes people forget" what he brings. Calciomercato.com also reports that the coach described Bastoni as "a treasure for Inter and Italy" and asked that "no one question Calhanoglu."
The meeting against Club Brugge, which will be played at home, is shaping up to be a first test to measure Inter's European ambitions, between the objective stated by the club and the dream evoked by their coach.
