Aston Villa takes legal action against Jamie Carragher over insults

Aston Villa has announced its intention to take legal action against Jamie Carragher, a pundit and former Liverpool player, for comments deemed “unacceptable” about the club and its supporters. The news has been reported by several media outlets, including The Guardian, BBC Sport, and De Telegraaf. The club confirmed it in a statement cited by the Evening Standard.

Comments made on a podcast

According to Foot Mercato, the statements in question were made on the Stick to Football podcast. The Daily Mail reports that Jamie Carragher allegedly suggested that Unai Emery should replace Michael Carrick at Manchester United and told fans to be quiet. Aston Villa, currently 9th in the Premier League, did not accept these comments, reports Foot Mercato.

The club's decision

The club's chairman, Nassef Sawiris, explained that this action follows "unacceptable insults towards the club and its supporters," according to the Evening Standard. Voetbal International indicates that Aston Villa is "taking the step of turning to the justice system" after these texts and that the club considers that Carragher expressed himself in an unacceptable manner. BBC Sport and The Guardian also mention legal proceedings initiated by Villa for these insults deemed unacceptable. According to Maisfutebol, Aston Villa will sue Jamie Carragher for the same reasons.
